For my Information Design Elective we were asked to produce a comparison of a minimum of 6 variables across 6 international metro systems: Berlin, London, Moscow, New York, Paris and Tokyo. I had already begun to research colour perception at this point in the unit so I used the elective as an opportunity to look at the information graphics for each system and created a comparison of line colours used on the maps themselves. This approach was inspired by a paper by Paul Green-Armytage about the limits of colour coding.
Unit 2.1 Elective A Information Design Supporting Material
I produced two outputs for the elective, a poster and a Pantone-style comparison chart which didn’t meet the brief particularly well but was a valuable exercise for analysing and comparing the colours.
Great read.
